I had the wonderful opportunity of attending the New Teachers’ Conference in Burnaby earlier this year. They had fantastic workshops available. I attended the following two:
- Behaviour: Expect the Unexpected
Although focused primarily on elementary grade levels, I found helpful advice on how to deal with certain behaviours that may even be beneficial for secondary school students.
- What Every New Teacher in the BCTF Should Know
Some basic pointers about navigation through the BCTF website and where resources can be found.
The workshops were very informative, but the Sixties Scoop exhibit was the highlight of that entire conference. It harboured stories from survivors and special items of importance to them. It was a wonderful piece, and also quite important.
I hope that, in the future, I will be able to visit and learn from more workshops to aid in my experience as a developing teacher. The next chance I get, I’ll be diving into an inquiry workshop to learn more about inquiry-based learning and how I can scaffold it in the classroom.
